  18.                             Quick Introduction

  21.  Voodoo-X is an MUI based archive browser and extractor that uses the XAD
  22.  unarchiver engine. This means it doesn't depend on external archiver
  23.  commands being in the C: (etc.) drawer.

  37.  This list depends on the version of XAD you're using. By the time you read
  38.  this, XAD might be several generations better and more advanced.

  42.                              Long Introduction
  43.  ============================================================================

  45.  Voodoo-X is an MUI based front-end for Dirk Stoecker's powerful unarchiving
  46.  system xadmaster.library (Shareware). Unlike other dearchiver front-ends,
  47.  Voodoo-X doesn't depend on external archiver commands (such as LZX, LHA,
  48.  DMS, etc.) being in the C: drawer nor does it require complicated command
  49.  line setups for these commands. This is because XAD does all the hard work.

  52.  Voodoo-X allows you to quickly browse an archive's contents and view
  53.  individual files (with filetypes) like pictures and documents just by
  54.  double clicking your mouse. This method of browsing archives proves to
  55.  be highly effective since you don't need to get your hands dirty by
  56.  extracting files to temporary locations such as Ram:. Voodoo-X does all
  57.  that for you.

  59.  xadmaster.library is a modular system and will support even more archiver
  60.  formats in the future.

  62.  Note: Voodoo-X doesn't actually write disk based archives (like DMS, xMash,
  63.        etc.) back to disk, but instead examines them to see if they are
  64.        OFS or FFS formatted, if they are, it then allows you to browse
  65.        through the contents of them and retrieve individual files.

  67.        Voodoo-X can also retrieve files from inside standard FFS formatted
  68.        (i.e AmigaDOS) ADF files like those used with WinUAE. OFS, FFS,
  69.        DirCache, International, double-density and high-density disks
  70.        formats are all supported.

  74.                        Known bugs/Things still to do
  75.  ============================================================================

  77.  These are known problems and are not worth reporting. You're only wasting
  78.  your own time if you report them, but thanks for the effort anyway. :-)

  80. - No Locale support yet (planned).
  81.  
  82. - Those who use small screen resolutions (i.e. like < 640x512) may notice
  83.   some weird layouts with MUI. Don't ask me why, but some people have
  84.   reported MUI defaulting to the Helvetica font.
  85.  
  86. - Progress bar resets to 0 with really big archives (100MB+).
  87.  
  88. - You need to quit Voodoo-X and restart it to update any newly configured
  89.   toolbars. I removed the "Update Toolbar" feature at the last moment due
  90.   to some bugs/design issues that would have taken ages to fix. I'll bring
  91.   this feature back in version 1.6.

  93. - The Listtree viewmode is obsolete, will be totally removed sometime in
  94.   favour of NListtree. So questions like "What's the point of having two
  95.   tree viewmodes?" will be ignored. It's a transitional thing, get used
  96.   to it. ;-)

  98. - Voodoo-X looks for toolbar images in its home dir by default. This can be
  99.   problematic when launching it from environments (like filemanagers, etc.)
  100.   that screw with the PROGDIR: path (this is where Voodoo-X expects to find
  101.   the Images drawer). To bypass this, use an absolute path to the image
  102.   location. For example, use something like "MyTools:Voodoo-X/Images/Quit"
  103.   instead of "Images/Quit".

  105. - Lack of documentation. I've absolutely no time to update the documentation
  106.   for this version. If somebody could do this for me I'd be very greatful. :-)

  110.   for a detailed description of changes made since v1.4.

  139.  o Browse many archives very quickly. Voodoo-X contains an archive history
  140.    list, much like the URL history list of a web browser. This allows you
  141.    to switch between archives VERY QUICKLY with only three clicks of the
  142.    mouse button.

  144.  o Retrieve files from within DMS archives (and other disk based archive
  145.    formats too) without having to extract the entire archive to disk or
  146.    a virtual disk device like FMS.

  148.  o Browse archives inside archives. Quickly gain access to that document
  149.    inside that LHA inside that LZX inside that DMS. ;)

  151.  o Quickly view pictures, documents or similar files that are inside archives
  152.    simply by double clicking on a file. Voodoo-X will then extract it and
  153.    start the viewer of your choice.

  155.  o Drag one or more archive icons from Workbench into the main window to
  156.    browse their contents.

  158.  o Support for multipart archives.

  160.  o Support for archives that contain multiple portions (like embedded filing

  163.  o Virus checking. If you have Georg Hoermann's xvs.library system installed
  164.    then you can check archives for file viruses. You can also specify if
  165.    every file extracted should be checked.

  167.  o Lots of archiver formats are supported (common ones and obscure ones). 
  168.    Disk image formats are also supported, so you can treat AmigaDOS
  169.    formatted ADF files as normal archives under Voodoo-X.

  172.    depends on the client being used. Some clients are coded in C and might
  173.    noticeably slower than the original archive program on older CPUs.

  177.  o Quickly copy, move or delete archives using pull down menus. This can
  178.    be highly convenient when going through download directories.
